What is it?

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) has it's foundations in osteopathic medicine and is a gentle non-invasive, hands-on treatment for the whole body. There are a lot of components to BCST, but it is in the most basic sense a therapeutic practice where a trained practitioner uses their hands to tune in and feel the natural rhythm of the client's central nervous system in order to stimulate healing. We are able to listen to the inner workings of the craniosacral system-the system comprised of membranes and cerebrospinal fluid surrounding both the brain and spinal cord. The fluctuation of the cerebrospinal fluid creates a variety of tides within the system.

A Biodynamic Craniosacral therapist learns to listen deeply and can tap into these tide-like rhythms of the craniosacral system and inherent intelligence of the body, in order to recognize where the expression of health may be flowing and where there are energy patterns of restriction or congestion. By using a "listening" touch that is light and still, we aide in helping to down-regulate the client's nervous system, which sparks a biological process that is unique to each individual in order to release held tensions, stresses and trauma from the body.

In BCST, we believe that health is never lost no matter what the ailment, and we bring our awareness to the “always available health" in a person's system. This allows the body to deeply relax, creating more balance in the energetic, emotional and physical body. This mindset supports greater ease and helps the client's body to awaken in order to restore health, balance, and normal functioning. This profound modality allows therapeutic change to happen at a deeper level, which creates more permeating results. Clients tend to feel very rested and centered after a session, with a greater sense of balance, wholeness and wellbeing.

Everyone Can Benefit

How many of us have experienced a head or tailbone injury, accidents, minor or major surgeries, and dental work?  Life experiences can create emotional trauma, physical strains and anesthesia residues. The biodynamic approach strengthens the whole system, creating a safe environment for the body to gain new perspectives and a healthy resolution of issues. It can be used to treat both acute and chronic pain alike.

The work can be effective for people of all ages from newborns to elders, and is also an effective modality for exploring and resolving issues of the past including prenatal and birth trauma. Each person is different on how their system wants to resolve trauma at any given time, therefore the improvement after a session may be subtle or dramatic. It is important to note that while a single session can have noticeable effects, it often takes multiple sessions to achieve the results you are seeking. BCST is also excellent as a preventive therapy because it can facilitate the resolution of imbalances within a client’s system that can later lead to illness or injury.
